This case study details how MadMicrobe partnered with the agency Proximyl Health to create a sophisticated animation for Plinabulin, an investigational therapeutic. The project required a scientifically accurate, photo-realistic visualization of a complex, dual-action mechanism for a specialized audience of healthcare professionals.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
MadMicrobe was engaged by Proximyl Health to develop a high-science Mechanism of Action animation for Plinabulin. The objective was to create an educational tool for physicians, clearly explaining how the therapeutic supports cancer patients by both preventing Chemotherapy-Induced Neutropenia (CIN) and reinforcing the antitumor response of standard-of-care regimens. The animation needed to be a visually compelling, photo-realistic 3D rendering of the complex science.
THE CHALLENGE
The primary challenge was to create a scientifically precise visualization of a unique and complex molecular pathway. Our team needed to accurately depict how a single molecular event—the release of the protein GEF-H1—triggers two distinct physiological outcomes in different parts of the body. The animation had to clearly illustrate this sophisticated, dual-action story with photo-realism, ensuring the science was both accessible and compelling to a knowledgeable audience of physicians. A further challenge was to establish a consistent visual language between a detailed static illustration and the dynamic 3D animation.
THE SOLUTION: FROM STATIC ILLUSTRATION TO DYNAMIC ANIMATION
Our solution was a process-driven strategy that prioritized scientific accuracy and visual clarity. We began by developing a comprehensive master illustration in close collaboration with the client. This detailed image served as the scientific blueprint for the entire project, mapping out both pathways of the dual-action story and establishing an accurate visual language for all molecular and cellular models.

With the scientific foundation set, our animation team then brought this static world to life. The complex signaling cascade was visualized as a clear, sequential activation of proteins, allowing viewers to easily follow the cause-and-effect chain. To demonstrate the downstream effects, we created data-driven animations of key cellular events, such as the maturation of dendritic cells shown developing extensions to activate T-cells, and the demargination of neutrophils, where the cells become motile and mobile. The entire animation was produced with a focus on photo-realism, creating a beautiful and authentic representation of the science.

IMPACT
The final animation delivered a clear, accurate, and visually stunning explanation of a sophisticated, dual-action MOA. The project equipped Proximyl Health with a premium, high-science educational tool to effectively engage with physicians and other healthcare professionals. The animation successfully illuminates the complex science behind Plinabulin, empowering meaningful scientific exchange and clearly articulating the therapeutic’s unique mechanism for a discerning medical audience.
